Carrie Marill: Biography | Resumé
Carrie Marill's paintings and drawings are a direct response to her immediate surroundings. Depending where she is or what she is doing with her life the work will morph to mimic her interest. Although the subject matter of the work can change, her aesthetic is still apparent thru the keen attention to color and balance in composition. Her work has been exhibited throughout the United States in California, New York, Seattle, Miami, Texas, and Arizona. She is the recipient of several awards including The Contemporary Forum Artist Grant, 2005 and a recent nominee for the Louis Comfort Tiffany Foundation Grant, 2008.
Marill was born in 1976 in San Francisco, CA. She graduated from San Francisco State University, 2002 with a BA in painting, then moved to Ithaca, New York to attend Cornell University where she received an MFA, 2004. Her work has been published in New American Paintings, Southwest Art, The New Times, LA weekly and LA Times.
Today, Carrie Marill lives in Goodyear, AZ. Besides creating artwork in her studio in downtown Phoenix, Marill helps to run a Community Supported Farm, which provides fresh organic vegetables to sixty families. She's looking forward to spending time in different parts of the country and around the world thru artists residencies to see how new environments affect her work.
